At this point, I'm finalizing my systems & plans for the trip. Systems?
Yes, I wanted to figure out the best way (for me) to blog/take photos/edit/backup while I'm out there.
I wanted a system that wouldn't be too consuming in time or money.
I also focused on getting technology that could both do the job but won't completely break my heart if it were stolen.
Basically, I wasn't taking my mac haha
I'm also not taking my big DSLR. That was a giant back & forth decision for me.
I'm a photographer at heart and want so badly to take the big cameras & lenses and photograph the shit out of this trip.
However, I have a big annoyance with bulk. Carrying too much stuff bugs the crap out of me when I travel. I want to be hands free with a light pack. I want to take all the photos & videos, but I want to enjoy myself. That was the whole point of this trip. To experience new parts of the world.
If I took all the pro gear, I'd end up spending my time getting the pro shots and while it hurts my heart a little, that's not what I want to do.
Let's face it, you can get incredible travel photos all over the internet. SO I'll be focusing on getting a good portion of travel photos, but a better portion of ME in them, experiencing, playing, learning, growing, and meeting new people.
Daniel brought that to my attention. So we made a list of features that the tiny point & shoot camera needs:
Check it out, the Sony HX80

Daniel brought that to my attention. So we made a list of features that the tiny point & shoot camera needs:
- A flip LCD to keep my selfie game on point
- Long zoom because I'm on a tight tourist schedule and likely won't have a chance to go out and get the best framed shot from an awesome location. I'll need to take that shot best I can from my tourist spot.
- Small size because duh
- Video capabilities of course.

This baby meets just about all the qualifications of a point & shoot for travel. I can't wait to try it out. You better believe I'll be testing it out and posting the brand new shots in a blog post. Hoping it handles all my demands during the trip. I plan on doing plenty of summaries when i return, one of which will be a summary of how the gear held up. What I liked, issues that came up, what i would keep, and what I would change. |
We have some other gear in the works, I'm still making decisions. My next big decision is a day pack/purse/backpack solution. Any suggestions are welcome.
As I finalize what I'm bringing, I'll let you know.
In the meantime, donate to help me out (if you're feeling especially generous today) and follow my instagram >>> @gladygoes for all the travel photos of not just Europe but all my past, present adventures!
